A-Hole of the week = Chris Dodd

I normally avoid politics on this blog and someone has to really piss me off to get me to include it as a topic.

U.S. Senator Chris Dodd, you are that asshole...

What the hell were you thinking.... the American public would not care that their tax money was going toward bonuses for AIG...? That you could lie about your involvement in writing the loophole and the press would just let it slide...?

Well guess what Senator, the Democrats are in charge and the buck stops with them. Pointing at George W. every time something goes wrong is gonna get old fast.

So far, the new administration has been sitting under the Sword of Damocles without knowing it. Gentlemen, look up!!!

When Obama's national security team walks out of a meeting whispering "Holy shit.." to each other, you know that they just noticed the sword for the first time. How does the food at the big table taste now guys?

Troops

This has got to be my favorite parody ever!!! It was made before Lucas decided to cash in on the franchise for episodes 1,2 & 3, so continuity is off a bit.

The attention to detail and special effects were amazing for when it was done. I wonder what he had for a budget? Great concept and production by Kevin Rubio...

We have Godzilla, the bridge of the Enterprise, and what appears to be alien hobos.

Aliens Cause Global Warming (No, seriously...)

Michael Crichton makes the argument for aliens causing global warming.... I'm not joking!!!

This is a taste...

"My topic today sounds humorous but unfortunately I am serious. I am going to argue that extraterrestrials lie behind global warming. Or to speak more precisely, I will argue that a belief in extraterrestrials has paved the way, in a progression of steps, to a belief in global warming. Charting this progression of belief will be my task today.

Let me say at once that I have no desire to discourage anyone from believing in either extraterrestrials or global warming. That would be quite impossible to do. Rather, I want to discuss the history of several widely-publicized beliefs and to point to what I consider an emerging crisis in the whole enterprise of science-namely the increasingly uneasy relationship between hard science and public policy."

For the rest, just click on the title... It's a fascinating read.

More proof that the Ape Revolution is upon us.

For the love of God, they're hoarding weapons now!!!

The BBC reports:

Zoo chimp 'planned' stone attacks
A male chimpanzee in a Swedish zoo planned hundreds of stone-throwing attacks on zoo visitors, according to researchers.

Keepers at Furuvik Zoo found that the chimp collected and stored stones that he would later use as missiles.

Further, the chimp learned to recognise how and when parts of his concrete enclosure could be pulled apart to fashion further projectiles.

The findings are reported in the journal Current Biology.

There has been scant evidence in previous research that animals can plan for future events.

Crucial to the current study is the fact that Santino, a chimpanzee at the zoo in the city north of Stockholm, collected the stones in a calm state, prior to the zoo opening in the morning.

The launching of the stones occurred hours later - during dominance displays to zoo visitors - with Santino in an "agitated" state.

This suggests that Santino was anticipating a future mental state - an ability that has been difficult to definitively prove in animals, according to Mathias Osvath, a cognitive scientist from Lund University in Sweden and author of the new research.

"We've done experimental studies, and the chimps in my mind show very clearly that they do plan for future needs, but it has been argued that perhaps this was an experimental artefact," Dr Osvath told BBC News.

"Now we have this spontaneous behaviour, which is always in some sense better evidence."

Cracking show

Dr Osvath embarked on the study after zoo staff discovered caches of stones in the section of the enclosure facing the public viewing area.

Since the initial discovery in 1997, hundreds of the caches have been removed to protect visitors, to whom the caching and the aggressive displays seem strictly related; in the off season, Santino neither hoards the projectiles nor hurls them.

Most interestingly, Santino seems to have learned how to spot weak parts of the concrete "boulders" in the centre of the enclosure.

When water seeps into cracks in the concrete and freezes, portions become detached that make a hollow sound when tapped.

Santino was observed gently knocking on the "boulders", hitting harder to detach bits that were loosened and adding those to his stashes of ammunition.

There are a number of examples of complex behaviour in apes that suggest forms of consciousness.

Planning behaviour like that of the current work is connected to so-called autonoetic consciousness, where information due to memory can be distinguished from that from the senses.

"I'm personally convinced that at least chimps do plan for future needs, that they do have this autonoetic consciousness," Dr Osvath said.

"I hope that other zoos or those in the wild will look more closely at what is happening," he added.

"I bet there must be a lot of these kinds of behaviours out there, and I wouldn't be surprised if we find them in dolphins or other species."

This is clearly a part of a coordinated assault on all of humanity. Don't say I didn't warn you!!!!

Welcome aboard Mark, Now get a new Number...

BOSTON -- The Bruins added two pieces for their playoff push without giving anything up from the roster that came into deadline day tied for the best record in the NHL.

The Bruins acquired Mark Recchi and defenseman Steve Montador in separate deals on Wednesday. Both are expected to be in uniform for Thursday night's game against the Phoenix Coyotes, when Boston will try to reverse a skid in which it's lost eight of 11 games.

"I know we've been in a bit of a lull," said Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, who didn't expect the deals to affect the team's chemistry because no active players were shipped out. "I've seen these guys play the whole year and they have good character. So I don't think they'll ruffle any feathers in the room."

Boston sent forward Petteri Nokelainen, who hasn't played since getting hit in the face with a stick on Feb. 10, to Anaheim for Montador. Forward Martins Karsums and defenseman Matt Lashoff, who have a combined 22 games and two assists for Boston, were shipped to Tampa Bay for Recchi and a second-round pick in 2010.

"I expect our players to respond," Chiarelli said. "There's going to be a little more competition for ice time. That's a good thing."

The Bruins entered Wednesday tied with the San Jose Sharks for the best record in the NHL with 93 points -- six points ahead of the New Jersey Devils for the Eastern Conference lead. But Chiarelli saw the holes in his lineup and filled them, with an eye toward what his rivals were doing.

"It could be considered that we took a half-step, full-step -- whatever -- ahead. But they're still tough teams," he said. "I'm a little tired, but I'm proud of the whole process that we went through."

Montador will help out on defense, and Recchi is a left-handed shooter who fills that need on Boston's power play. A seven time All-Star and two-time Stanley Cup champion, Recchi has 13 goals and 32 assists this season and 1,426 points in his 1,471 game, 20-year NHL career.

"The experience factor was big," Chiarelli said. "Just the experience that he's played in the league a long time. He's a durable player and you need that in this stretch, in the playoffs.

"Then you factor in the Stanley Cup experience, and that's invaluable."

Among active players, Recchi is third in games played, sixth in goals and trails only Joe Sakic in assists and points.

"Nobody's ever had a bad thing to say about him," Montador said in a conference call with Boston reporters. "If you look at his track record, he's certainly been consistent."

The 29-year-old Montador has four goals and a career-high 16 assists for Anaheim this season. In his NHL career, Montador has 18 goals and 49 assists.

Nokelainen has three assists this season. Karsums played in six games for Boston this season and registered one assist, and Lashoff has one assist in 16 Bruins games.
